MICHU has missed out on a place in the Spain squad — despite a pledge from the World Cup champions' manager that the Swansea City forward would be included.
Vicente del Bosque said in December that he would hand Swansea's top scorer his first international appearance in next Wednesday's friendly against Uruguay, while there was speculation Michu's team-mate Chico Flores could also be in contention for a call-up.
Former Real Madrid boss del Bosque was at Goodison Park last month to watch Michu during Swansea's 0-0 draw with Everton, and Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has sympathy for his summer signing from Rayo Vallecano.
"They have so many players — Alvaro Negredo, Fernando Llorente and David Villa — and sometimes none (of the strikers) play," he said.
"It would have been nice for him because he's had a fantastic season. He has one small problem, he has a Spanish passport."
Fernando Torres and David de Gea were among the notable absentees from the Spain squad, and del Bosque admitted he was disappointed to leave Michu out.
"It has been a bit of a bad taste for not calling someone who deserves it," he said. "There are many players in those positions."
